Shall I Try And Start It?

Recommended Posts

percypug

Hi all, Have just purchased a "88" Cti 1.6 that i found in someones barn for the last 3 and a bit years. Getting it collected and dropped of in next week or so.

My questions is when i get, shall i just go ahead, fit a battery and try and see if it fires or would you suggest trying it by hand or check anything else first. Its not been run in 3 years. Unfortunately my jump box had minimul juice but it was enough to get dash lights and hear the fuel pump on turning key but it died at that point.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Darryl :(

i'd give it a turn by hand first just to make sure it aint seized solid.

check oil and water plus all the ignition components for deteriation.

you never know it might just fire up :(

If you plan to get it roadworthy and use it I'd definitely check the cambelt if not replace it.

get a socket on the crank pulley that should do it and as said above (cant believe i forgot) unless your rebuilding it i would do the cambelt before turning it on the motor incase it snaps. there not hard to do.
