French Plates

Recommended Posts

SorrentoED

I bought a pair of these french number plates, you know the aluminium pressed plates with the french euro badge, anyway about a month later i got pulled over by the police. Obviously I knew what he pulled me over for as soon as he did it. We were chatting for 30 minutes about my car and he was sayin how much he liked 205 gti's and how his uncle used to own one  and I thought I might have got away with illeagal plates seeing as he liked my car so much. Anyway, after he checked my insurance and the all the other usual stuff he let me go.

2 weeks later I get a letter from humberside police saying I owe them £60 for driving with illeagal number plates, also get a letter from DVLA saying that I have to change my plates, photograph them on the car and send the pics to DVLA within 28 days or my registration would be permantley removed and would have to pay for another one.

I couldn't beleive it, my mate got away with his french plates and got stopped by coppers no end of times. First time i got pulled with them and he issued a £60 fine and notified the DVLA.

:):)

If you knew they're not legal, why moan about it now? What did you expect?

Theres a lot of things i don't see, doesn't mean they don't happen. I've never seen a donkey sex show but i have it on good authority that they do happen.

I did however see a Range Rover being pulled over on the M4 a couple of months ago. I was doing...um...some miles an hour...down the M4, the RR came past me and after him a silver 3 series BMW which then lit up like a blue christmas tree and pulled him on to the hard shoulder.

I thought it was quite amusing

I've seen them pull over plenty of more expensive cars with altered plates on the various police camera shows on TV. You've got to remember that the police don't really discriminate against the type of car, they'll just go for any car that exhibits a minor infraction, as it's a quick and easy 'crime' to bust, and makes them feel good about themselves.

I agree with that, but only partly.

its a quick and easy way to find the serial offenders that may have a worse issue unseen from simply a passing glimpse, if they didn't rely on these small hunches they'd never catch any offenders.

as small as you may see a crime, its still a crime.

you say go and catch some robbers, if they're in cars they would! they are TRAFFIC cops, hence the crime they target :D

I was speaking to an English marshal last time I went to the 'ring and he advised that I swap my French plates for UK ones ASAP. He said while the German police may not care about it the French (gendermarines) take a very dim view of illegal plates and will give you a hefty on the spot fine.
