Spare Wheel

just spent a happy half hour freeing my spare wheel and got to wondering why was it done this way?

was it a cheap option?

there looks to be enough room to have made a proper wheel well so why wasnt this done

A wheel well would fill with water from the rear window seals :) , and make changing the beam harder.

 

 

Peugeot also thought of all them chavs avin to get there subs out the boot on the hard shoulder init :)

Am I righti n thinking that an OE tyre (185) fits better, most use 195 tyres now.

didnt think about the beam good point but im sure it must be possible

Probably so spare wheels get stolen easily and peugeot make more money selling replacements :)

 

I wonder if back in the day anyone got a full set of alloys for there 205 by nicking peoples spares?

Good reason, Try removing a tyre when the boot's full, Dead easy with it being under the floor, I know in the 406 with the amount of stuff I carry around, sometime's it's impossible to remove it to get to the tyre, I wish they did the same here

but

its a lot easier to check tyre pressure

its less chance of getting nicked

it wont get covered in cr@p

and you dont have to fill the boot up!!!

but the boot's purpose is to carry crap!

 

if you don't want it nicked just fit the spare wheel lock, or wind the bolt right down till you can't just unhook it (needs 185's for that....)

 

also from the days of the escrot, wheel wells can rot like buggery, and it wouldn't work very well with the shell architecture required fora beam type suspension.

 

 

a doddle to check the tyre pressure hen its underneath, no need to open the boot or remove your half a ton of crap ;)

 

if you want it clean stick a rubble sack over it :lol:

Cut if off, buy a wheel cover, chuck it in boot, job done.

 

My spare is a 13, whilst my car wheels are 14, whoopsy!

nothing wrong with that, My zx rolled on 15" alloys and has a 14" steel spare as standard.

Cut it off? Bit extreme innit? Undo a few bolts and it slides out easy

just thought that as the wheel is the same size as a 406 someone might have cut the boot floor out and but it in a 205

One simple reason, the rearmost crossmember that the rear beam mounts to. You'd have to cut this out to fit a wheel well, and then lose structural strength from the rear of the car, as there is naff all of any structure behind that.
