Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I've a bit of a leak in my drivers footwell and on further inspection i've come across this

For this area am i right in saying that the wing would have to come off to repare or would i be able to remove the sealent on the inside of the car then re-seal with tiger seal or similar?

I've been reading about leaks and the usual places but never came across too much detail about this area (unless i'm blind).

Any help is always appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Will

Redtop

You could just clean that area down and get rid off the surface rust then apply seam sealer, you can get it in a tin as brush on or a tube style. Then let it cure over a couple of days [with out it getting wet] and a dust of paint over it if you wanted. Unless you suspect there is something very bad behind the wing then take that off and see. It's not like some of the minis or escorts over here.

Tbh I have no idea what its like behind there as i've never had the wing off before and its only been outside (since i got it) for about 8-9 months and been filling with water ever since, so by that it could of been like this before i bought the car.

I'd say that's actually coming from the windscreen seal, from the picture it certainly looks like a wet trail fron the top down.

Thing is the sound deadening behind is dry at the top but dripping at the bottom on the drivers side.

It started to rain quite heavy today and i knew water was getting in so when i had a look i could see the water running down the drain hole under the scuttle panel and then coming in through this seal.

The window could also be the problem as the sound deadening on the passenger side is soaked all the way to the top but i'll run a bead of sealent around the window seal when it drys up and see if it helps that.

Thanks for the replys much appreciated.

Baz, you where right, dry day today and I poured about a litre of water down the scuttle drainage hole and very little coming through that seal, looks like a magority of the water must be coming through the window seal but it still baffles me why the sound deadening is dry at the top shouldn't it be wet too?

I have not tried hosing the car as i'm still waiting to get the rubber strips that run along the top of the doors re-fitted, as i know with these removed water is running around the door seal and into the car this way.

I'll get them stuck back on tomorow with some double sided foam tape and hose then, hopefully I can source where it's coming in from.

Aye so it seams, it's a pitty I can't get a new seal over here, I've tried a few peugeot and non-Peugeot places with no joy and my worrie with second hand is will it be the same story.

Has anyone had a new seal from Peugeot in the UK recently?

I've been tackling the bulkhead sealant today and I've come across a strange one.

On the passenger side, the little rubber bung just in front of the seat mount pictured there was a very small amount of water coming from this, so i took it out and there was water inside and a fair amount too.

I checked the sill drain holes and there bone dry and not blocked so i drilled a couple of wee holes and about a pint of water came gushing out

I'm stump with this as there is also water under the new door seal i got and its draining into the car, thing is its only the bottom of the seal, i took it off and its dry all the way round barr the bottom

Has anyone else had his before? I'm having no luck with this and the passenger foot well is really filling up with water.

As for the front windscreen I've ran a bead of sealer round that a few days ago and it looks like nothing is coming in from there (did the talc test, no water coming in above the lower bulkhead bead of sealant)

Again any help/info/advice is alway appreciated

Will

EDIT: was inside the car there whilst it was raining heavy and there's a very small drip of water coming from behind the dash in the middle, i'm going to take the dash out to get to the bottom of this.
