Cd Changer Advice

Recommended Posts

Someone gave me a Panasonic DP6090 CD Changer the other day for nothing and amazingly someone is still selling the headunits that control them brand new for £40!

If i was to mount the changer in the boot, is there any permanent live wires going near the boot, i was thinking the interior boot light? Would this be man enough for the job?

Anyone had any experiences with this changer or panasonic headunits of this era ( think its about 2001 ish)

Good changers, I've got a couple, also used rebranded by VW/Audi for quite a few years.

The live goes to the changer through the cable from the headunit. I have mine under the passenger seat in my 205. Easy to run the cable to, plus you can reach it from the drivers seat.

Usually a cable runs from the cd changer to the back of the head unit, hidden by your carpet

So the wire marked "battery" actually plugs into the headunit?

Or is this something different. Also my wiring does not have the small "ground" lead coming out from the the main cable.

I looked at placing it under the passenger seat but it touches against the base of it, is it ok like this?

I have my changer in the boot, and slipped the wire under the carpet and under the door seals so the wire wouldnt rub or get damaged as easily. Im sure you could route a power supply the same way from the dash rather than trying to adapt a light wiring. The wiring / fuses probably wouldnt be able to cope anyway.

The power wire from the changer lead doesn't plug into the head unit, but it can be connected to the head unit power supply. Don't worry about the ground lead as it doesn't seem to affect the workings. My changer has been under the passengers seat in my GTI for 3 years now with no ill effects.

Right then some progress, heaadunit arrived and is now in along with the changer and ..... it works ;)

Very pleased to say the least, next question is this, is your changer mounted at all Tom?

The changer sits quite well under the passenger seat so just needs something to stop it sliding, i'm thinking velcro could work.

Also the instructions say that when its mounted horizontally one side needs to be on the the H setting and the other on the V setting.

Mine had been left with H on both sides and seems to work fine, any need to change this??

I'd imagine you would need to change those settings as by the sounds of things V is vertical and H is horizontal. You may end up with scratched discs or something with the wrong settings.

Hard to tell without knowing the system, but I know alot of older stuff relies on mechanical supports.

The instructions are wrong, set both sides the same.

I have fixed mine through the carpet, although velcro would probably work OK.

Aye thats what i thought, just weird that it seems to work spot on as it is, and that it had been like that in the car it was pulled out of.

You get them window winders ok mate???
