Sluggish Gti6!

Recommended Posts

Hiya, iv had my 205 with a gti 6 lump in it now for around 4/5 months. In that time, she has got more and more sluggish. More so latley, and i am now just not enjoying driving her B) ! She doesn't seem to have the electric performance she used to, and its getting me down. Here are the symptoms; when i put my foot down at lower revs, initially there isn't really anything at all (kind of struggling), and then all of a sudden theres a big pick up. The fuel pump kind of clicks or taps when you have been driving her (especially hard....this mayb normal??), the revs seem to take aaaages to get up and just doesn't want to go above 110 without a fight to be honest. I would say things under the bonnet don't look their tidyest with two green plugs over to the right near the coolant bottles dangling down with crap on them ( fuel pump relay maybe? ) , the exhaust isn't really ideal either, with the backbox having baffles rattling all over the place. I would say iv already had a newer fuel pump as my old one packed in...i did get one from "spoox" but the car wouldn't pull at all with this one, so i took it back and got this one (which is still second hand), and it was to say better..or how it used to be. There are other symptoms im sure, but i can't think sitting here off the top of my head right now...I have seen similar symptoms and suggestions on here with a sluggish MI16 .. http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...757&hl=fuel pump relay&st=10 .. i realy would appreciate peoples help...thanks alot :D

I'm just going to add....i took off my exhaust just now...the insides seem faaaairly in tact, not perfect but not completley gone. I don't know if it helps, but i have no silencer, cat or anything...just a back box. But to me what looks like a lambda sensor up near the front where the cat would be :S ...

Hi mate, ye have changed fuel filter and plugs...it does feel like flat spots tbh, someone said it maybe cuz of decat and no silencer...not enough back pressure?

might be a breaking down coil, poorly map sensor, is she getting WOT? timing all ok?

Has the diagnostic port been wired in?, if not wire it in then and have the error codes read from the ECU, otherwise you are pissing in the wind guessing!

Could it be you just getting used to the car and it feeling less powerfull?

What about coolant temp sensor, dodgy earth lead?

Yeah I agree it could be a coil breaking down, etc sensor, map sensor, lambda sensor. Tends to give you a sluggish feel due to ecu activating limp mode and an incorrect mixture.

It is harder to find the fault without the diagnostic port but can still be done just taked time.

You could take the etc sensor out and check the resistance when dipped in hot water at least you could eliminate one thing.

Lambda and map sensor though the only way to find out is byt fitting good ones.

thanks every1 for that :D ye, coils on them do break down alot.....they don't have maf/map sensors apprantly. Ye i may wire in the diagnostic machine and see whats the situation. The ECU coolant temp sensor plug is worse for wear and doesn't connect properly tbh. As for the lambda sensor, it does look like its been hit a few times underneath, mayb not 100 percent tbh. The dodgy earth cable makes sense ye, what i did notice....is the battery isn't the best to be honest, and when i took it for a HUUUUGLEY long drive for 3 or so hours of not driving hard, and then driving hard, it fealt superb! "DCC" yes i am getting time done and checked, you said is she getting WOT? whats that? Thanks every1

No problem sharpy ! They do have a map sensor on the throttle body its the ecus only way of measuring. Mass air flow on this engine.

I'm glad you have found a few suspects, if there etc sensor has a bad connection, it could be giving incorrect signals and causing incorrect ignition timeing. And get that lambda sensor sorted ! They are soo f**king tempermental I tell you ! From experience lol.

And the battery ! Hopfully you will get it sorted soon bud.

An ECT and cleaning all earths and putting a couple of new ones on myself made mine a bit better fella. I think my next step is to just go for a 1.6 box tbh.
