High Clutch Pedal

Recommended Posts

Hi my clutch cable snapped the other day so I bought a new one but after fitting it the clutch pedal now sits about an inch higher than all the other pedals, any idea how to make it sit lower again?

slacken the cable until it bites/sits just where you want it. there is an exact measurement in haynes i think, but i have always just adjusted it until it felt good.

slacken the cable and see what you think about the bite, should still be fine.

sounds like you have simply over tightened the cable a bit, back it off and it should be fine, if your bite point dissapears though you may need a new clutch.

As the friction material on the clutch wears so you have to adjust the cable, to compensate and so the pedal rises. When the pedal sits high its a sure sign the material is getting thin. The fact a cable has already snapped means your putting excessive load on the cable - the new cable might not last long either, even if the clutch holds out.

Definately sounds like the cluth could do with replacing. Try not to accelerate harshly and minimize gear changes to maximize the life - in the meantime order yourself a VALEO one, i think euro car parts does a good price. Other brands have never lasted as long for me. Last time my clutch went it wasn't slipping at all, but after fitting 3 cables I decided it was tome to bite the bullet and fit a clutch - pig of a job to do on your own though, best employ a mate to help get the box off/on.

Maybe its just me, but my 205 seems to eat clutches!
