Whats The Biggest Clutch? Is It Mi16?

Recommended Posts

weejimmy

Clutch has gone and i thought rather than replacing with a stock one i should uprate

what is the biggest that i can use?

i think its 405 1.9 mi16, is that right?

oh its in a 205 turbo diesel, but its tunned quite a bit i think near 200lbft runs the 1.9 td engine from a 306 and a 205 td gearbox but im not fussed if i have to change the gearbox.

thanks

If I remember right the two litre 8v turbo runs a 235mm clutch.

Bear in mind that bigger doesn't always mean better :D

I phoned Valeo a while back as I wondered about torque limits on clutches-

306 2.0 HDI 230mm - 253 NM - Part number valeo 826201

405 1.9 MI16 215mm - 275 NM - part number valeo 801042

Also 2.0 8v turbo is a pull type release and I'd guess your set up is for a push type.

Hope this helps :)

The pull setup has a light diagphram on the cover, 's the same problem the 306HDI lot are having when winding the boost up.

i began to wonder about the 8v turbo being the wrong spline in the centre or not fitting for another reason.

your right i should have said highest lb/ft cappacity not neceserily bigest diameter.

275 nm thats 202 lb/ft so should be ok

do i need the mi16 flywheel or will it bolt up to the 306 td one?

I've been running slightly more than that quoted torque figure through an Mi16 clutch without any problem. It started to slip now, but only due to wear.
