Does Anyone Know How To Tell The Difference Between The 1.6 And 1.9

Recommended Posts

hi everyone, me and my dad bought a supposedly 1.6 205 gti, its got a drum rear beam etc but i noticed that its got a 1.9 inlet maifold and injectors,

we measured the stroke which was a bit awkward due to the angle but we got a reading of about 84mm, and some other more random ones, i know a 1.9 is 88mm but i was wondering is there any other way just to make sure? eg is there a code on the block somewhere.

thanks in advance to anyone who can help

What colour injectors does it have? The 1.6's have black injectors and the 1.9's have yellow ones.

Drive it :)

If it wants to rev and spins round to 6500 really easily it's a 1.6. If it's lazy, it's a 1.9....or a crap 1.6 ;)

i find if i havent drove a 1.6 for a decent amount of time the 1st time I pull away its at somethink like 4000rpm because they rev realy easy.

In a 1.9 i stall the 1st time lol

I thought the 1.6's had blue injectors. mine has anyway.

If it's a non-CAT 1.9 GTi engine, it should have D6B stamped on the block just above the alternator.

Also, look for a spacer plate between the sump and block, yellow injectors, a dizzy with a part number ending "066", and (difficult to see) the flywheel doesn't have lightening channels/groove cut in it

They do.
