Help On A Gti-6

Recommended Posts

Firstly......sorry if this is in the wrong section!

A guy I know (friend of a friend so not 100% trust in him) wants to swop his 306 GTI-6 for my 306 Diesel due to him getting a new job that means a round trip of 70 miles per day.

I have owned many 205 GTI's but not a performance 306. I really want another 205 GTI so thinking about this 306 GTI then advertising it on Ebay with a swap for a 205 GTI.

Anyway......back to the 306 GTI! I spoke to him earlier and asked him a few questions about the car, so far this is what I know.

PH1 306 GTI-6

Silver

MOT till March 2011

Tax till September 2010

Full service history

136,000 miles but engine was rebuilt 19,000 miles ago by Peugeot with all reciepts

New cambelt and radiator 2 months ago

Whats the general views on the short little bit about this car, also anything to look for? I'm sure if I was to advertise it on Pistonheads and Ebay with a 'Wont swop for a 205 GTI :) ' Surely someone would show an interest? Also anyone with any knowledge on these engines, any good?

Thanks in advance for any help

Great car, i am a member of the black 6 club.

The rear brake compensator's tend to get stiff so if you WD spray them before the mot they are usually fine.

Also if there is a water leak in the foot-well on top of the carpet it usually means the outer window seal is letting in the water, which goes along the inside of the inner door card and out below the door speakers. A new window seal is needed not a new door seal which is what i did.

Just come back from taking it on a drive. It was great as he just handed the keys over and went back indoors so enabled me to give it a good drive

Handling is fantastic, very good performance, like a bigger 205 GTI. Been reading reports on them and it seems everyone is saying they are terrible on fuel............What about if driven with care, changing gear at 2.5k through the gears, surely can't be that bad......or can they??

Miles

They are good on fuel, better than the 205 without a doubt even if driven at a fair pace

The chap who owns it really was not doing a great job of selling........He was saying £20 to 100 miles :)

If this is the case then firstly a full service, new lambda sensor and the only thing on the advisory cert' was 'Slight leak from exhaust' This may cause the MPG to drop?

Reading the reviews on the net, well the 306 GTI-6 seems to be getting great feedbacks, I'm so used to 205 GTI's though and like the late 80-mid 90'd French hot hatches.

I enjoy driving mine. Much more refined than the 205, but I miss the rawness and light weight. I calculated 24.5 mpg this weekend over roughly 100 miles of mixed driving. Not great, but the exhaust has a very slight blow. Conversely, i've had 34+ from the 205 on a run. I'm going to be refitting the exhaust and swapping the lambda sensor.

Also, check the top mount isn't cracked and moving about:
