hi. i need to order some bits for my mates 1.9 205 tomorrow. its j reg, which engine code is it??? cheers

Have a look in here, and bookmark it.

 

If you scroll down a bit to the coloured entries, you'll see 2 engine codes for 1.9 8v engines.

 

Then, you or your mate have a look on the top left hand bit of the block to see if the ID plate is still there; it should be one of those 2 codes.
