Oilpump Which One.?

Recommended Posts

Guest renolarsen

Hi im about to rebuild my D6B engine, and im stock at the oilpump crank sprocket

I notis that the engine from 87´ has, 22 tooth.

and from a 91´engine i have a 18 tooth.

and a xara 2,0 has 26 tooth.

so which one should i use, as bigger the higher oil pressure, but is the 26 T too big, and how much slope is allowed, on the chain. ?

ill will take out the oilpump spring tomorrow to find out if there is any difference from the xara 2,0 and the 205´s

if the spring is bigger on the xara, should i then put it in the 205 oilpump and the xara crank 26 T sprocket. to go max pressure. ??

try to upload a pic

Henry 1.9GTi

as long as you match the chain to sprocket, 52link for 26T sprocket, then either is fine. Spring will define maximum pressure so the sprocket wont change that. Just make sure the cam drive pulley sits in the same position with a different sprocket. All those in your pics look to have a shaft for the lip seal to sit on so should be same dimensions. My Mi16 had a spacer that the lip seal sealed against and this incorporated a guide for the cam belt on the lower drive pulley, not sure how the GTi looks but worth checking. Either pressure spring I would have thought would be fine. They should be the same free length just a different rate. Lower rate spring may release a few more ponies ;)

Thanks for the reply..

i put the xu10 pump and sprocket on, and with a little mod on the sumpbaffel its turn out perfect.

Thanks again.. i might have some more Q, doing the assembly..

Be sure to check if the engine can handle the higher oil flow. You risk the oil pump will empty the sump quicker than the oil can return back into the sump.

Low rpm seems ok but as soon you rev it the pump capacity is too "good".

Higher pressure comes from different rated pressure relieve spring.

Clearly, it would seem, Peugeot thought they were pumping too much oil and decided to lower the drive ratio - for performance work though, who knows what's best?!

Any suggestions for where's best to get an oil pump? FMP have just quoted me £96+vat for an '89 1600 which is allegedly 'trade' price - sound rather expensive to me!

just use the original pump with a 6 bar spring from Peugeot from an XU10 for £1.50, its very rare that these o.e units wear out, also the aftermaret units are said to be very poor quality compared to o.e units.

The spring is coming today. As much as I'd like to believe you, the pump ain't looking too healthy. The clearances are rather on the large side and the the teeth look horrid - it's got to go.

Did I get a decent quote or is there better value to be found elsewhere?

If it really was rather worn then I'd just put a wanted post up for an used one.

1001 56, same pump as the XUD9, £195 from Peugeot.

Ta for the rapid response. Perhaps that price wasn't so bad after all!!
