Mi16 Chip.

Recommended Posts

Guest Leandro205GTiPT

Hi guys.

I have a chip to change the original one. I’m always doing 7200rpm in 5th gear and need to change before the gear box dies...

So, what I want to hear from you is the best way to tune the air sensor (don’t know the correct term to describe it), because I already put it once, but it stayed with lots of fuel.

The chip is a standard chip to the MI16, doing 7800rpm and, as far as I heard, give more 7hp...

I appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Hug from Portugal.

if you are always doing 7200rpm in fifth, then i recommend changing your underpants regularly (maybe take a spare set with you) and possibly changing your driving style before you die.

Thank you for your recommendation. But what I really want is to learn how I tune my air flow sensor :(

Also, just to give some more information, engine is almost 100% original. I just have fuel pressure on 4 BARs and the usual direct admission.

What happens when I change the chip, is that I feel that is missing air... Car stays always giving ratters and it is hard to start, as stays with too many fuel.....

4 bar is too much, it should be 3 bar for a standard management system.

If you change the chip you may see 1hp gain if your lucky and will reduce your Fuel usage as I;m guessing it's one of these Ebay specials which claim the world and delvier nothing

As said the Fuel pressure should be reset to 3 bar as there is no need for 4 bar on a std Engine or ECU

Standard chip is the best, no need to go over 7200rpm either on a standard engine!

You want a different gearbox by the sound of it!

Hmmmmm. I’m seeing here some interesting things.

1st, fuel pressure: I know that original pressure are 3bar. But the person who made the swap had 3 MIs and one T16 (405t16 engine) in 205s, and I just believed him, and he said that pressure should be at 4bar. Then I never tried with 3 lol.

Will change the valve (I have one pressed to 4bar, and have other original at home) to see how it stays.

But witch are the differences with the fuel pressure?? What are the gains or losses of 4bar?

Dear “C_W”, yes I know that 7200 is enough (230km/h in fifth) but I have a “heavy foot”, and don’t want to be “cutting” 5th- Just because of that I want to put the chip, to do not cut so early, so I will not kill my gear box. Also, you talk in change gear box. I already had a diesel one, but car is too “dead” with it... So I entered the original gear box.

Back to the chip: So, if I put the chip, I do not need to change the nothing on the “MAF” (is like that is called??).

That is really my question!

“Miles”, I think is that one!!!!! As far as I know, was bought on ebay, if I’m not in mistake, cost was 70€...

Thank you! :-)

Folks, wait.

I did not buy the chip. A friend gave it to me, and he told me that was bought on ebay, by that price, and that was told to him that would increase 7hp.

But I do not want it because the power! Just want to do more rotation!! That chip does 7800rpm, and that is the question! ;)

So, I need to know if I just need to change the chip, or I should also change something on air mass sensor!

And now, I’m also confused about the fuel pressure... 3 or 4 bars? What I’ll win/lose with 3 and 4 bars?

Thanks :(

Seems like you've got two issues you're trying to resolve

- increase the rev limit

- compensate for over-fuelling

The rev limit is controlled by the ECU, there are some modified 8v ECUs which have the rev limit raised for Mi16 use, perhaps there are modified Mi16 ECUs with raised rev limits, but I'm not aware of them.

The overfuelling is caused by excessive fuel pressure. If it's a standard engine on original management then remove your fuel pressure boost valve.

Sorry, I did not understand very well your post.

What you call the rev limit? Are you referring to the rotation?

And what is the “ECU”?... Is the air mass sensor, that stays in admission, near the filter?

The ECU is in the car, the electronic box, Adjusting or using these Ebay chip's on the MAF just make the car overfuel as the ECU think;s it's cold and applies the choke or extra fueling/Air depending how bad the resistor which which only costs a €1 or 2

I think everyone is saying dont fit the chip and put back on your standard fuel pressure regulator....

I remember petert saying he had trouble removing the rev limit on some chips so there's a pretty good chance you won't be getting 7800 rpm.

Strip apart both gearboxes and put the diesel 5th in your box and you should gain a bit more top speed while keeping it lively in the first 4 gears.

Are superchips anygood?

From what I've read they don't really do anything.

I've got 1 sat here and will test it when I get my engine finished.

Already put the chip!

Car is doing 7800rpm.......

I didn't change the pressure yet, and didn't drive the car yet, was just working in the garage.

then will tell you more about it!

Not really, I had a few back in the day and bar the extra RPM's no differance, MI and 75% of Derv 5ths are the same

I think the idea of having your car chipped sounds good and is easy to market people like a quick fix. Leandro205GTiPT good luck to you it sounds like it has helped your set up.
