Driveshafts And Cv Joints

Hi,

 

Been thinking i should put either new shafts or just two new CV joints on my rally car before i break one, Are motorfactors onces up to the job or should i go to peugeot for them?

 

Its a rally car by the way.

GSF and get SKF ones...Think my last ones were £85 each before surcharge was removed. So ideally order and then collect clutching your old shafts. Alternatively, re-gaitor and re-grease your old ones, wait for them to break and then continue as above.

I've re-read this and think I sound rude... not intended as I suppose a busted driveshaft would put a slight dampner on your rally.

It isn't the shafts that break so I don't understand why people throw recon shafts at stuff when the outer CV can be bought seperately.

So long as the inner joints are OK (and they are decent tripode joints that usually last very well) and the intermediate bearing is OK, then it is just a case of fitting an outer CV.

I have a different view point to Tom .

 

Shafts can break , I've personally done 2 of them , in both cases totally my fault . red mist full lock and not thinking .

 

The CV are ususally weaker though , which is where most failures come from.

If the intermediate bearing is shagged you can just press a new one on.. bearing is about £8-£9 i belive

 

At the moment my drive shaft is knocking and iv narrowed it down to the right hand (drivers side) tripod being knackered, unfortunately these cant be bought seperatley i dont think...

A mate of mine use to break shfts in half all the time until he change his LSD
