Recommended Posts

Wes

i have just fitted omp upper and lower strut braces. the upper one is adjustable. which way should you tighten it? so it pulls in or pushes out? i have set it so its in, if its out it hits the bonnet slightly.

Shouldn't you wind it out very slightly to take up the tension? I thought to fit properly, that you jacked up the car to take the load off the struts, fitted the brace and then made sure it was just pushing against the top mount screws, then tighten and lower the car. This will mean that the geometry is in more of a neutral position and as how it was designed. Tightening up gives micro-negative camber but allows more flex in the strut tops as they try to move inwards under load.

I am sure Phil is right, but just curious to why my logic is wrong

They try to move outwards under load Henry - the wheel tries to pivot about the lower balljoint :)

Hence you should tension it to tie the struts together.
