Oil Temperature...help?!

Hi, have got a 205 gti with a 306 gti 6 engine in. I have standard 205 gti clocks, and the oil temperature guage hasn't seemed to move before now (asumed it didn't work, people who wired clocks in said it's different some how :S ) ... but now with this hot weather, when i have been driving hard for a bit it seems to go to just below half on the guage....Is this normal ? :S Pleeeease help, thanks alot

Sounds fine to me - don't really need to worry until it's in the final third of the gauge really.

hmmm ye i suppose. Just never gone up before now, well not really. I accept its alot lot warmer outside and that would be a factor, just wundered as the guages aren't necessarily wired in or the same as due to it being different, bigger engine. Any one got any ideas? :S

the thicker mark around the half way mark is 90deg... which is operating temp for oil (80deg -100deg)

Sounds about right, mine went up yesterday for the first time since winter, the idle pressure dropped slightly too which I put down to the oil being warmer and thinner.

ok lads, thanks alot. Just wierd that never seen it move much. But to be fair i did buy the car in the winter I'm going to buy an oil cooler anyway....would look cool

Fitted one to mine when put engine in and it over cools oil,even with thermostat in sandwhich plate and coole blanked off with a piece of old number plate!!!!
