Rolando 10 Posted April 7, 2010 i fitted a 309 gti PAS rack to my 205 gti but now because i have to get rid of the pump due to engine mods, can i still run my 309 rack and block the holes somehow? or should i just fit the orginal 205 gti non PAS rack? Cheers Ro
Baz 421 Posted April 7, 2010 Yes. Just remove the ram and associated parts.
Rolando 10 Posted April 7, 2010 ahh cool thanks. is there any advantages in keeping the 309 rack though? or would it be better to fit the original and sell the 309 rack? you seem to know everything Baz cheers
Baz 421 Posted April 7, 2010 Well, not quite everything but thankyou! The only advantage is in the fact it's a PAS rack, it has half a turn or so less than a non-PAS rack, otherwise 309/205 ones are identical, the extra length is in the rod ends.
Rolando 10 Posted April 7, 2010 ahh so i'd be better off fitting the orginal 205 rack and selling the 309 rack then? all that hassle and money just to go back to the original, i hate cars lol
Baz 421 Posted April 7, 2010 No, the one you have is fine, it just has half a turn less than a standard rack, in essence a quick-rack.
Rolando 10 Posted April 7, 2010 ohh i see, so in theory the steering will be sharper but have less lock?
Baz 421 Posted April 7, 2010 Less turns lock to lock yes, may feel a little heavier when slow speed manouvering etc yes, but it's not that bad!
Rolando 10 Posted April 7, 2010 ahh ok, thanks for your advice much appreciated
richardjw 1 Posted April 8, 2010 Never knew that the PAS rack was less lock-to-lock. I'm stripping my PAS rack down and fitting it for sure now! Another alternative to blanking it off would be to run a Saxo or 106GTi electric pump. Some on eBay - but i got to sorce one from a scrapper for £40! Bit heavy though. Shout if you want more information.
