Bbm Top Mount Rubbers - Does This Look Normal?

Would you expect the rubbers to look squashed and cracked like that? They are brand new rubbers and I don’t think the top nuts are fully tightened down as when I did the top bearings hardly moved.

 

Or have I put them together incorrectly?

Can't really tell from your pictures, but doesn't look right to me! Like you're missing the cup that sits between the rubber and bearing.

Looking at the drawing you've given I'm pretty sure that's how I've put them together.

 

 

Ali spacer that the spring sits into , then the cup thing, then the rubber, then the plate with 3 bolts on, then the little dish bit that the main nuts screw onto.

 

I have some new bearings to fit so I'll check again and report back!

I fitted some a few months back, and the complete struts have been in the garage off the car. The rubber has gone the same. It wipes off though. I think the white marks are some sort of compound coming out of the rubber as its now compressed. I meant to email BBM and ask if it was right or not......

I fitted the new bearings today & am confident it's all in the correct order.

 

Got the brand new shock avo had supplied fitted to the car. Dropped it down & run it to 20 yards down the road to settle it. It looked too high so popped the wheel off to adjust it and noticed the drop link bracket has wrecked the inside of the tyre.

A brand new drop link got bent too.

 

On closer inspection the bracket is in the completely wrong place as is the brake line bracket.

I've checked the tab on the back & that's located in the hub correctly.

 

So so annoyed I wasted the afternoon. I already had problems with the new shock being siezed too.

 

Does it sound like a 306 shock has been supplied?

I agree with Welshpug, i think your top mount rubbers are upside down.

sure you've got them on the right sides of the car?

 

306 ones do indeed look very similar but have the Droplink tab at a different angle.

The way they are fitted means they fit snugly in the cups. If I turn it round it moves about a lot and just doesn't look right.

If you look at Baz's diagram the larger side of the rubber faces upwards and that's how mine are fitted.

 

Yep the shock is definately on the right side of the car!

 

The brackets are correct, they are just at the wrong angle.

 

The older shock of the pair appears to be fine.

Just to prove i'm not going mad, here is the rubber with the larger bit facing upwards!

 

(I've put some spacers between the cup and bearing just for the photo so it shows it spaced out)

Here is a picture of the coilover and bent droplink and you can see the brackets are not right

also that droplink tab seems extremely wrong, it can't even be a 306 one at that angle.

The large more bulbous part is on top as everyone has described it should be, how is my picture wrong?

 

Oh and I'm glad you see what I mean about the droplink tab. I've no idea what car it's from then.

 

Does a ZX or Xsara share a similar set up?

306 shocks dont have the tab for the brake hose to attach, so they are 205 shocks that you have. Both the drop link tab and brake hose tab are in the wrong place. If the shock was turned in the hub carrier they would both be correct. It is strange that the shock is lighned up with the locating tab at the back. It would suggest the locating tab is wrong on the shock.
