1.9 Brakes On 1.6 Problems, Locking A Rear Wheel

Recommended Posts

Fox

Am I right in thinking the 1600's are split front to back, and the 1900's are split corner to corner.

Why is this?

I'm still running 1.6 lines, with 1.9 spec brakes all round, they stop fine, although it sometimes locks a rear wheel when braking really hard

Would swaping to 1900 solve this?

Are you still runing standard sized front discs?

My car was originally a 1.6 GTI & I've still got the standard brake front rear split rather than the diagonal of the 1.9 with discs all round but when i had 266mm discs up front I was locking the nearside rear quite easily.

Since swapping back to standard sized discs on the front it has fixed its self & if anything now stops even better.

With just me in the car I could lock the nearside rear when not really braking hard but with a passenger in it never locked.

Graham.
