Rough Running / Stalling

Has anyone come across this issue or can provide any guidance.

My brother-law has a 1990 309 gti, I know that this booted version will be frowned upon by some on here but he can't seem to get a sensible answer from any garages other than sucking air through their teeth and then telling him to leave it with them for four or five days!!

The car is in standard form, which runs fine except when warm and he then goes around a left hand bend. After that the car splutters, misfires and then sometimes just cuts out completely and then won't start for about ten minutes. He has had the plugs and fuel filter changed and changed the garage that he uses and put shell optimax in it.

Is there a baffle in the tank that prevents the fuel pick up from being starved of fuel when cornering?

The car has recently started ticking over intermittently around the 1500 rpm mark but then settles again later on, don't know if this would provide any clues?

It could simply be a case of fuel starvation, my mate Neil had a gti that did exactly the same thing, turned out it was due to lack of fuel, was perfect when there was more that a quarter of a tank in...

We love the 309 GTI here (Well most of us do! ) So there will be now frown-age.

Sounds like fuel starvation to me too. The tank isnt baffled (well not on 205's anyways). Although its odd it wont start after it cuts out.

If your taking it to garages and so on, probably the most cost effective bit of fault finding you can do yourself is fit a swirl pot. Around £30 on ebay which is a damn sight less than a garage will charge you for investigating (and not finding) the fault. Worst comes to worst you get a bit of un-needed engine bay bling.

Also jiggle the wire from the dizzy (the little black one) and check for blue sparks jumping around the dizzy at night. Im wondering if you have 2 faults here?
