Fitting New Tappets To A Mi16 Alloy Engine

hi please could anyone tell me how much of a job is it to fit new hydrulic tappets to a mi 16 alloy block engine may sound silly but done a search but came up with nothing thanks ;

a fairly extensive job, timing belt off, cam cover off, then cam pulleys, cam ladders, cams, they you get to the tappets.

 

 

why do you need to replace them? not a particularly common part to fail, more likely to be a bent valve or damaged valve guide.

was told engine has one or 2 noisey tappets when cold but not to bad when warm would you replace any idears how to make them less noisey thanks

My hydraulic lifters were really noisy so when the cylinder head was being rebuilt (by PeterT), I dismantled them & tried his method of reconditioning the buckets.

Result-no noisy lifters & engine is again quiet (except for the t/bodies & Miles 4-2-1 exhaust). <_<

You could remove the lifters with the head still on. Cam cover off; timing side all pinned up and belt removed; cam bearing caps off (in order!); and then lifters out as per Jeff's/Peter's advice.

 

It really does work. <_<
