Carpet Underlay / Soundproofing Asbestos?

Just wondering what this material is ?

Just some sort of generic (maybe recycled) sound proof material, it's definatly not asbestos.

All I know of it is it keep water for ages when your heater materix leaks, and it weighs about 25 kg when all removed with the carpet!

It would not be asbestos or rather it should not be!

Could be rockwool or a fibrebased board or a composite of both.

 

I laid 140 m2 of Fermacell soundproofing when I was doing up my flat in Amsterdam. It comes in metre by half metre lengths and is bloody heavy. The delivery driver just dumped it on the pavement outside the flat - it was a sweltering summer day and I carried it piece by piece up a flight of suicidally steep stairs. I was picking the rockwool out of my arms for weeks.

 

The mad old lady downstairs still continually complained that we wore 'the wrong sort of slippers'.
