Rear Bumper Adjustment

Recommended Posts

slobberingant

Hey guys,

My drivers side rear wheel sits further back than my passengers side. I believe that this is the reason for the car scrubbing under load.

I had a wheel alignment analysis and it appears that it isn't the stub axle and the wheel sits fine. It looks like it might be the body of the car.

Is there any way that I can adjust the rear bumper further back so that it isn't so close to the wheel?

I'm sure you could just fit some washer's to pack out the bumper but that won't change the wheel arch radius.

Is the tyre rubbing? If so what's it rubbing on?

Yeah the tyre rubs when I have a full car and I turn. Only on the drivers side though.

I'm not sure what exactly is rubbing. I will get my three heaviest friends in the back (nothing suss) tomorrow and let you know.

By packing out the bumper with washers I can only make it a little lower than standard. Is that right? I don't think that is what i'm after.

Is it possible to adjust the bumper horizontally so that I can move it back and increase the arch radius?

looking at the line of the bumper under the rear light it does look a tad too far forward, normally these just bolt on though, there is no adjustment.

you could space the rear bracket away, but I'd start by checking that the panel isn't bent, the main one to check is the nut in the corner of the rear panel inside the boot.

You should check your side mounting points for the bumper, as both lips on my car had completely rotted away from the shell and the bumper wasn't sitting correctly.

Now that i've temporarily held the mounts in their correct positions both sides sit how they should.
