Quick Wiring Q

Recommended Posts

anyone know where wire number 74 goes to from pin 5 on the 6 pin brown multiplug on the 8v engine loom please? :) notes I can find on here are:

5. K-Light (wire 74)
5. Unknown Engine check light (note 2)

Note 2 – this wire wasn’t present on my link loom, so I had to add this in (hence no wire number/colour).

K light is the engine diagnostic on motronic managment, wire 74. If you car is not a phase 2 then this wire wont be plumbed in to the two connectors, but I believe you can wire it up heres a link

i have the wire from the car side but i've just put an engine loom in and this pin is empty from the engine loom side (all others accounted for) so i'd quite like to run a wire from the engine loom into the brown multiplug to hook up with my existing 74 wire - but not sure where to stick it :P I think in the ECU somewhere?? anyone know please? :)

Its not used on the 8V engine, unless you are putting a late motronic one in?

sounds like a late car loom, the clocks probably wont have the light, and nor will the ecu have that function unless its a Motronic as mentioned.

I think its an early loom - got the old style coil connectors! but its all a bit of a mismatch really - the engine and engine loom came from 2 different places (and no idea what year, etc..) and the car had emerald loom in it which has been removed but still had some oddities left in!

obviously the emerald loom used to use it with the gti6/mi16 engine - any way i can check if the 8v engine can use it? and what does it do anyways? :) :)

lights up the orange light that you probably haven't got on the dash to tell you something is up with the engine management, but your ecu is too old to support that anyway so don't worry about it :)

A lot of phase 2 1.9's have the K light wire fitted but not in use even on the jetronic models.

Isn't it switched / triggered from the ecu?

As said though if you're swapping back to original management then you won't need it.

never came across any K-light wiring on my 89 gti, no function in the cluster for it either.

have got a K-light wire in my engine loom with the MP3.1 though.

Thats sound just like the J reg 1.9 GTI I converted to MP3.1, plugged the K light wire from the ecu into the brown under dash plug & it worked straight out of the box. :D

Shame my 1.6 didn't have it though because my ecu has the wire there just I've yet to wire it in. :D
