Ice Guru Needed...

Recommended Posts

Since buying my car back in October I've had no stereo, I recently decided I needed more than just my singing so a mate leant me an old Kenwood headunit, when plugged in it appears to power the laser but not turn on, after swapping the switched and perm lives about it didn't do anything. Another mate loaned me an Audi headunit that powers up straight away and tunes in nicely, unfortunately its too wide for the standard slot so I just purchased a Sony headunit, much to my annoyance as electricals ain't my forte its just the same as the first Kenwood unit I tried first off.

Anyone got any ideas as I have an expensive paperweight gathering dust in the hangar and a car i'm ready to burn, i've tried the reset button under the faceplate but still no joy :)

Ta in advance

AC

Have you got the ISO connector's or has it been chopped around,

You can buy the connectors if not and they come with the info needed to connect them up and away you go,

I'm not sure if it will answer your question, but it might be useful to know that the audi unit works on permanent live only. So you might try connecting both switched and permanent on the Sony or Kenwood to the permanent live from the car.

You just have to remember to switch it off before you get out the car cos it won't switch off with the key as you will have done away with the ignition live.

Thanks mate, the Sony has a double input option on the yellow lead, its meant to be for cars with no ACC position on the ignition. I have tried both connected but still no joy.

It must be something simple just not sure what

Then you are on your own. If i have any more flashes of genius i'll be sure to let you know :)

(still think it could be something to do with the positioning of the lives. It usually is)

Have you tried the Sony or Kenwood in another car? at least then you can start to rule out which is working.

get a multi meter and check that you have a permanent live and a switched live, sounds like you dont. or connect the red and the yellow together to the permanent live which will bypass the acc i.e the stereo will work without the keys in the ignition.

the red is the switched live and the yellow is the permanent live.

Thanks for all the advice folks, I had already used a multimeter on the red plug sat in the stereo hole and labelled up the switched live and battery feed so no probs there.

Decided to have another final go today as it was getting close to torching it!!

Went further into the dash than the red plug and found some shoddy connections, cut out the crap and bypassed the red plug direct to the ISO adapter for power and left the red plug for speakers, low and behold it works!!!!!

Odd how the Audi one worked off the dodgy connections but at least I have something to listen too now, just need to replace the front speakers, fit some rears and deaden up the doors next

Cheers
