Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to setting my cam perfect.

110 ATDC is a good starting point for most cams. And definitely use a DTI.

You'll find it far easier to use the lift @ TDC method if the engine is in the car. There is more chance of error using the lobe centre method due to dwell at max lift and the inability to read the crank shaft position accurately. I can't recall the exact figure for that cam, but something around 0.060" to 0.070" will be a good starting point.

ok cheers guys,

engine is out and i've used the dti to find true tdc. also used the dti to find true centre valve lift for cam too. so

my thoughts were that the standard cam has a duration of 234.5 for a 1.9 which should open att 11.5 degrees befor tdc and closes 43 degrees abdc. now that would give me a full valve lift at 117.25 atdc. if i were to use a mild cam with high lift and a 280 duration, should i set it at 135 atdc or at 115??? obviously one would give earlier vavle opening and later valve closing and the later would open the same but close much much later.

hope you follow this small blog ...

cheers

I don't follow

if its a standard cam, just use the standard pulley unless the head has been given a heavy skim.

if its an aftermarket cam then find out the manufacturers data and set it as stated.

ok

its a 280 cam similar to kent and piper mild cam, i used the standard cam specs to show that the full valve lift is mid duration. now when you use a 280 duration do i set the cam to open at mid duration at the same point atdc?
