Bucket Seat Recomendations

Recommended Posts

Gibbo GTI

Looking for a bucket seat for my 205. The car will be used for the odd track day and occasional hooning around country roads. Max I want to spend is £300. I'm only 5'5" and of slim (10 stone) build, any recommendations appreciated.

I have Sparco Evo & Rev's, Corbeau Sprint, Pro Sport & Revolution, & a Cobra Imola.

I'm 6 foot and 11ish St, and all those fit me quite well, and very comfy.

The only one's that possibly won't be in budget are the Revolution & Pro Sport.

I can vouch for the Corbeau sprints, really nice seats, very supportive but not as hard to get in and out as some of the others IMO

Im 5'10" & 11(ish) stone If that is any help

Being small and slim I'd certainly direct you towards OMP RS / GRIP / WRC.

The RS and Grip arevery simialr seats, just grip has little ribbed bits to literally hold you in the seat.

WRC is deeper so should hold even better, just not as easy to get out from.

They are all fairly narrow, so should be a decent snug fit even on smaller people.

Other option is Motordrive

http://www.motordrive.com/acatalog/catalogbody.html

f***ing good seats and often overlooked by people going for the Italian marques.

It is very personal thing though, I'd suggest strongly trying a variety out.

I would never touch a steel framed seat either,

I have a OMP RS-PT seat in my car and think they are a good seat.I like it alot better than the Cobra Monaco S seats I had before. They are a bit more than £300 though,as there is a newer version out now,but you might get one of the first ones somewhere.OMP RS-PT2

Or a plywood (Cheap'o') one's along with base mounting's, Side mounts are so much more easy to fit alond with less hassle.

Like anything safety related, Try as many as you can before you buy, Everyone is different and spend as much as you can

Sparco Pro ADV, its a stunning track day seat. Not the cheapest in the world but it keeps me nice and secure. And it's comfy too! I was surprised that I actually got into the seat at all because when I bought it back in November I was nearly 22 stone (fatty) but even at that size I was still able to get comfy. I've lost nearly 3 stone since then (careless) and the seat just gets better and better every time I get into it. ^_^

Try fleabay to buy one, as is the nature of the bay there is a LOT of sh*t on there, but every now and again there are some gems.

My seat came from a Demon Thieves auction and instead of the £450 - £500 the seat should have been there were two bids and I got it for £245...bonus, and it is still in date if I want to go racing.

Every now and again the Thieves put slow moving or old stock on fleabay and it is well worth a look if you aren't in a rush.

Edit - As Miles said try and avoid base mounting seats, side mounts are easier to mount and IMO safer.

ive got a cobra monaco as a passenger seat, its ok but dos'nt hold you in that well, i found a corbeau rev at a boot sale for £12 and its comfy (drove to the ring in it stopping only a couple of times) and it holds me in really well as high sides, very light too as i think its carbon kevlar or something? i think they are £300 ish or something new?

GRP. I don't think they ever made Kevlar Evo's.

Monaco's are awful, i personally can't stand them for longer than about 20mins. Although not quite as bad as Corbeau Forza's.

Why do you not advise steel framed seats ? Does that include road use ?

wasn't there a decent thread a little while ago with lots of recommendations? think the Sparco Sprint (that may stand correction..) was well thought of as steel framed seats go. i've had Forzas before, and they are hideously uncomfortable (as Baz sort of infers). think it's another of those 'get what you pay for' things

Best recommendation is to find somewhere to go sit in as many as possible. Obviously seats vary in size and shape, but as they're bucket seats designed to hold you in snuggly, this variation becomes much more important when compared to a normal road seat.

I managed to sit in loads at the autosport show a year ago and was suprised that there was literally only 2 of them that felt comfy and a good fit.

I'm now on the search for some Cobra Imolas to replace the Corbeau Forzas that came with the car.

To avoid starting a new thread.... how much realistically should I expect to pay for some decent (and low) mounting bars to be welded in? I presume it's a good days work as the original mounts (and some of the exhaust tunnel?) will need to be removed? I've seen a few examples in the trackday projects forum but just looking to get an idea on costs from those that have had some fitted?

Cheers

Dave

I'm pretty small too, 5'8 (just!) 10.5 stone and I have a sparco rev in my 309.

It's pretty comfy and the fit is quite good. I do find the shoulder supports a little bit higher than I'd like so that's something to bare in mind as you are a member of the little person club too!

I have a Recaro SPG in my 205. It's a bit above your budget but you might get one second hand (like I did).

It's a superb seat. Highly recommended.
