Engine Bay Live...?

Recommended Posts

fatony1

I disconnected all of my engine bay wiring before painting the engine bay and fitting a GTI-6 engine, and now im having a bit of trouble figuring where everything goes :) I dont think i helped myself by doing a battery in boot conversion at the same time.

Now from what i read, i assume this is the shunt box?

At the moment i have a plug connected to it from the engine bay loom as you can see here, i assume this is how all the lights etc get their live?

I also have connected to it a small seperate loom that plugs into the rad fan cooling swich

If this is right so far, how exactly does the shunt box become live? Where do i connect the big red cable from the battery? I also have a terminal on the starter motor with nothing connected to it, again assuming im right, is this how the engine loom becomes live?

Thanks in advance.

big red cable connects to the 10mm nuts on the end of the shunt box, you need to connect big red cable to starter and alternator as well.

So i assume my best bet will be to crimp a large ring connector onto the big red cable and attach it to one of the threads, then a smaller bore red cable from the other piece of thread to the starter and alternator?

I wouldn't go smaller, that's a fair increase in the length of cable, wouldn't want any drop in power.
