Starter Motor Wiring Query.

Recommended Posts

jeremy

Below is a picture of the wire connected to the starter soleniod however, in line was mounted the square thing in the picture connected to the alarm system. Is the square thing supposed to be their or was it for the alarm. If it is supposed to be their can someone explains how it should be connected.

I have also asked on on that other site 309ownersclub but I thought I might get a quicker response here. :)

Someones added a relay to your starter wire from ignition to overcome the dodgy starting probs often associated with these cars ;)

By doing that the power is direct from battery, instead of it having to travel right upto ignition barrel and back to solenoid :)

Your switch from ignition now switches that relay over which then connects direct to battery ;)

Its just a relay. Do you still want the alarm to work? If not the wire for the starter motor should come from position 3 on the ing switch.

That square thing is a relay; and I highly doubt it's OE.

It would have to have 4 wires going to it to function as a relay, and I suspect the alarm system activated or deactivated the relay to act as an immobilisor.

If you're removing the alarm or it's not present anyway, I'd remove that relay and just ensure you have one wire, which is live on cranking only that goes to the small terminal on the solenoid.

Are you trying to be funny. You made me laugh I don't think it is likely to work anymore :);)

Thanks for the replies, I shall just take a wire straight from the ignition.
