Wheel Arch Trim Trouble

Recommended Posts

Guest jakemadmax

morning all,

i have been sorting out my 205 gti and managed to get a o/s/r wheel arch trim. i've fitted it but it keeps coming loose. so i was just wondering if anyone knew an easy way of properly fixing it on there. it starts to pull off in the wind and don't want to loose it. :P

plz don't take the piss. it is a working process. :)

also does anyone know any good ways of restoring rear quater panels. i got a bit of rust. i lowered my car and it was mint untill i got someone in the back and i scraped. where it is rusty it pulled it off.

cheers in advance for any help

I'd imagine you are missing some of the original clips. Yhere should be 2 metal spring clips that hold the bottom of the straight bit of the trim to the body. The clips that slide into the arch part come in at least 2 different styles, if your new arch has the type with "fins" around the push in pins, then you should have push in plastic sleeves in the body holes. If you have the plain plastic ones, they should have metal spring retainers that push on from behind the arch.

Loop a cable tie around the inside of the pin and pull very tight for a quick fix, or slide some number plate plastic bolts into the arch and put the nut on the inside.Or buy a fitting kit from Pug if you're feeling flush

take your time, if lack of money is the issue with progress (and it is with many) then do the repair and then primer it to protect it then maybe with a rattle can give it a blow over to make it presentable, then when funds allow do it properly.

Oh and well done on the phase 1.

sounds like a plan. i'll get a grinder on it and see how big it goes. then clean up and weld new plates in.

i probably use zinc primer as it will protect it more.

my boss has agreed for me to put it in the bottom of my work and start to repair it. i will start it in 2 weeks. defo upload some pics.

i do love my car but it still needs a fair bit of work but i enjoy it.

thanks for the ideas :)
