Problem With Suspension

Recommended Posts

Will Eastman

Hey just having a few suspension problems with my new xs and thought id quiz you all about them,

1. the rear right corner is riding really low, possibly about 1.5-2inches lower than the other side, any one know why this could be and the fix for it. (i actualy like the ride height on this sagging corner, pretty much perfect haha)

2. there is a vagueness in the steering, particularly when cruising at high speeds (75) in a straightish line the car just seems to want to wander. I also can feel when accelerating away mainly that the wheels are trying to turn the steering wheel (you really have to hang on)

3. oh and the brakes are a bit s*it haha, but im guessing a good bit of bleading will help that out alot, (am considering puting gti discs on as i have become acustomed to the luxuories of a 2002 vw modern brakes)

thanks guys

I suspect the rear is knackered rear beam bearings etc, and the vague/wandery front is ovalled ball joint holes in hubs/wishbone bushes. (Not sure on the latter on an XS though)

hey just found that one front shock absorber was exploded and the other was weaping badly so replaced both. Now the steering is alot less vague but still not quite spot on. Any ideas anyone, how do i check if the lower arm is ok??

And had a look at the rear brakes, one of which was siezed on pretty much and the other was easy to turn the wheel when the hand break was on. So on with some new shoes and abit of adjustment and alot better, although need to be bled i think.
