106 Rear Drum Brakes Pony!

Recommended Posts

Right, birds car failed MOT on

: rear parking brake recording little or no effort

:service brake below requirements

:parking brake below requirements

Changed shoes last year for MOT and had the handbrake cable adjusted.

Today I stripped the drums cleaned up the piston & pots as I thought they were seized, roughed up the shoes

and inside the drums, lubed the handbrake mech even though it was free!

... and its still rubbish, can easily move the wheels by hand when the handbrake is on

WTF!

Any ideas folks?

Have you adjusted them only on the handbrake adjustment? If so they will be rubbish. Start again by backing the handbrake adjustment on the cable right the way off. Then adjust the shoes out using the "auto" adjuster (that almost 100% is NOT auto adjusting anything) inside the drum. They want to be so that with the drum on they will turn by hand, but will not spin. Just tickling the drum. With the drum back on give the pedal a few good pushes, then readjust inside the drum.

With this done adjust the handbrake cable. That should hopefully sort it.
