Steel Wheels /citroen Alloys?

Recommended Posts

Anton green

I would like some steel type wheels for my 205, I seem to remember a couple of folk were putting citroen C5 wheels on them a few years ago is this an option (I also remember C5's were recalled for some reason or other-was this because of the wheels?!!)?

I would have no clue on what car to find 7/15 steels in the correct offset without doing some research -could any of you share your knowledge on this one? The lighter the wheel the better pls!

don't know of any standard fit 7x15" steels, there are wellers but they weigh about 10 kilos a wheel <_<

C5's are 6" but I have heard of them being banded to 7".

Ahh, thanks on the link Henry.

The turbo 205 is making gradual progress as I spent much of last year in the States, but I have put a list of jobs together which I am getting through and sooner or later it will be all done and ready to enjoy. Recent jobs included the sunroof plating and mounting of a new aerial up there while I was at it. This sundays job should be to put in the last three harness mounts, then all being well next weekend I shall be hooking up sensors to the turbos engine block.. Looking forward to the day I turn the key and everything is 'just so' and works perfectly -and the car is moving nicely in that direction :)

..Shame wellers weigh so much, would never have thought it :)

FYI I shall be avoiding going the banded wheel route. I may have a look over on ebay for a set of citroen 'steels' in the near futures!

The C5 aluminium wheels we've had widened over here haven't been banded. The inner and outer are separated and a complete new 7" alloy outer is welded back on. The outer rim is made in the USA. Can't tell you much more than that, over than you can obviously have what ever offset you want. The original C5 wheel is 4.9Kg.

I've also widened 307 15x6 steel wheels via the same process. The 307 wheels are a lighter gauge to the 406 wheel. Widened to 7" they are still <8Kg. They were super cheap. Only AUS$100 per wheel. The 307 steel wheel is also desirable as it has a lot of room for bigger calipers. Far bigger than the C5 wheel.

Hmm those widened rims do look superb..

But I'm currently thinking C5 rims -just need to now find out if they will fit over 285mm brake discs as the standard peugeot speedlines were such a close fit they left a line around the inside of the alloy from where I had previously painted the calipers! I might be better off with 307 wheels for the clearance, but what offset does the 307 run as standard, would it be 205 compatible?

yes they will, C5's typically used 283x28mm discs and the same offset hubs as the 205/306 etc afaik.

The 307 wheel is 25et, so undesirable as standard. I had them set to 5et when widened. The C5 wheel is 18et and fits 283mm brakes under easily.

As Petert says, the 307 wheels are the wrong offset. on a 17x6.5J wheel they run an ET of 31. You could probably run 15" ones on 1.6 hubs but not 1.9s and then you need those for the bigger brakes
