Help! Strange Ignition Problem

Recommended Posts

dan_cole69

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help me. Ok so to give you the picture I have been working on my 205 over the last week and the following things have been done

Rear Axle lowered

Rear bumper removed

boot removed

Tonight I went out to my car (before I removed the boot) and it was dead. So I jumped it started first turn no problems, backed it into the garage and turned it off and while I was starting to take the boot off I noticed my ignition was on, funny I thought I never left it on before so walked round to turn it off and it was already off! so I looked for A possible earth wire that may have come loose but couldn't find anything so I disconnected my battery and took my boot off as planned.

When I was finished I started the car again and parked it in its usual spot. and the ignition light was still on even tho I had turned the car off. However when I put my foot on the brake everything goes off :( .

I really have know idea. ( There should be a smiley for scratchin my head!)

Any ideas???

Was it just the battery light that was lit up on the dash, or was it like the ignition key was still turned and the various electrical circuits were powered up?

I've seen the issue where the battery light stays lit on a friends car with the ignition off until you disconnect the battery, but I didn't investigate the issue any further and I'm not sure what he did to fix it, assuming the issue isn't still present. Not much help I know, but atleast it shows that it's not an unheard of issue.

Thankyou for replying,

It is not just the battery light it is all the lights as if the ignition is still on. Guess I will have to investigate further. Just thought somebody on here could help. But guess not........

Thanks again Anthony for the reply

In that case, try disconnecting the ignition barrel wiring (there's a couple of plugs normally to the right hand side of the cubby hole, near the ECU) and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, then it's possibly the ignition switch (the bit on the back of the barrel) that's at fault.

it sounds like the ignition switch - get a bosch replacement

Just thought I would document this problem for future reference.

Luckily I haven't had to fix the problem because my car has fixed its self!!

You've got to love 205's

I still will investigate however probably not untill it happens again, because im lazy.

Thanks for all the help
