Gti6 Cams In An S16

Recommended Posts

Mr Bob

I have done a serch and cant quite find the info I'm after

I have an s16 engine and yesterday was givin a set of gti6 cams

So I need to know:

Can the the gti6 cams be fitted to the s16?

Are there any gains in doing so?

Should I use the s16 pullys or gti6?

After a quick look I have noticed the gti6 cams obviously dont have the flat bit of metal for the s16 cam posistion sensor, is that going to be an issue?

Thanks for any help

Bob

afraid not.

different cam journal diameters/arrangement, also much larger lobes overall, but lighter IIRC.

GTi-6 cams are heavier than Mi16/S16.

Yes. I just posted a load to Australia!

PeterT is doing '6 regrinds too now. I may have a set.

OP (original poster): Note that Mi16/S16 heads are a very different design to the GTI6 head. They are both XU, (Mi is XU9 or XU10J4), but GTI6 is XU10J4RS.

There are plenty of cam profiles, new or regrind available for the Mi/S16 head which produce brilliant results. No need here to really think of using anything else.

If your head is off, make sure you get proper triple-cut valve seats put in.

I have a spare head with cams etc for an s16 I was wanting to get some work done on, then just swap them over (plus new timing belt, water pump, head gasket etc etc)

What would be best for an N/A engine? new cams or a reprofile? who does the reprofiles? and ultimately how much?

Anyone in scotland know of a good place to take heads to to get work done on them?

I take my car to dave at sound of silence for the biggish jobs I cant do so I might have a talk with him see what he can do, but gonna hit him soon with a biggish project I dont think hes gonna be happy with :P

I think I've just found some new slang for taking a dump :P

I'm still offering the forum discount of AUS$205 exchange, including return postage, for Stage I or II profiles. Stage I is best for a standard ECU.
