hey peps im wondering if some 1 can help me i have a 205 gti with the gti6 engine i also have the rev counter signal box.i have looked and searched though the forums but cant really find much about the problem im having with my rev counter.so far i have checked the fuse which is fine checked the earths which again is fine checked all the wiring from the signal box all appears to be fine also when i start the car up the rev counter needle jumps but then drops straight back down is there a simple solution or have i missed something or some way to check if there is an output coming from the rev counter or signal box or missed something.any help or advice would be very appreciated coz its really annoying me now. :rolleyes:

Can you give more information on the tacho interface and how it is connected. Does it use the tacho output pin from the engine ECU?

hello mate em no it use the white or beige wire cant really tell that run from the ecu loom which runs down and into the signal converter box which is a blue wire the rev counter was working with it like this but dont no more?is it best to try and get it to come from the pin out of the ecu?hope this makes sense

What components did you use and how did you wire them?

 

On the Gti-6 loom you should have 4 rectifier diodes 1n400x on each wire going from ECU to coils, and a 1kohm resistor grounded. Not sure the zener diode is necessary in the diagram

 

Also ensure the tacho is getting a proper ground on the clocks side (1 pin is wire #112 and the other is a ground)

hi nicolas hard to explain really with out a picture em i have 4 wires coming from each coil pack and 1 from ecu's wiring loom then the converter box is earthd on the thermostat housing i have opened the converter box to see if everything was ok [not the best converter box to be honest] it had all the resister you said.about that earth there is 1 wire which isnt dont anything one the connecting block that plug into the back of the rev counter dails is this the earth you mean?a little confused

hi guys found out my problem today that the zener diode has snaped can any 1 tell me which 1 it is in order to replace it looked on ebay and they have loads of differant 1s not to sure on the voltage i need.please help?
