Standard Xu10j4rs Piston Rings

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests I am after the spec and who makes piston rings for the XU10J4RS, apart from Peugeot/Citroen as they want an arm and a leg, and the other leg! (640 J9 SET 3 RING PIST 37.36 GBP + VAT per piston)

I bought a set of rings from a local supplier (for £58+vat) and upon trying to fit them I found they don't fit, as they are MI16 pattern from checking the part number, i.e 1.5, 1.75 and 3mm rings (top to bottom)

Having checked the listing for this brand (Tarabusi) I can see why I've been given the wrong rings, they don't list the RS engine

TRW don't have any rings for the RS engine on their catalogue, neither do Mahle :o so who else is there?

Cheers Matt, I think its just the middle ring that is too thick though I can't find my 0-25mm micrometer, seems that the middle and top rings are both 1.5mm.

Rang the supplier and they may be able to swap the middle ring with one from another suitable set so I'll be of to Cardiff asap.

yes the middle ring was too thick.

you need both the top and middle as you said to be 1.5mm

let me know if you dont have any luck and i'll give my engine place up the road a call

Took the new ring set and a piston down to the supplier and the guy swapped the middle ring for an appropriate 1.5mm thick middle ring with the stepped edge, Sorted :D

Lets hope it stops raining soon

Thats not a bad price for ring's from Pug to be honest, The ring's I get are German (Getozie, bad spelling I know) and are over £100 a set but to date have never needed adjusting to get the gap's right

That's odd Miles, Goetze are a TRW brand and I couldn't find any rings this engine on their Catalogue

That's not to say they don't do 86mm bore rings that are the right thickness though!

At least I know that they are out there for next time, or for anyone else that find any problems getting them :D

I checked the gaps on these and they're good, on the lower end of the spec range from Haynes manual

err, they don't have anything Peugeot/Citroen on there

looking at the bore listings their rings are too narrow.

who uses imperial nowadays? I was never taught it any further than feet and inches!
