Coolant/ Expansion Tank Questions

Recommended Posts

HERMAN

I am just in the process of doing a GTI6 conversion and I have brought a brand new coolant tank from Peugeot. It is differant from the original tank that was round.

What I need to know is what goes in the hole in the bottom of the tank (see photo) is it some kind of level sensor? I need to blank this hole off.

I also need to blank off the upper right hand outlet as this is not needed. I have seen that others fit a blank. Were is this blank avalible from?

Thanks

Neil

The new tank that you've been given looks like a different coloured version of the standard Phase 2 black header tank.

This as you've realised is different to the Phase 1/1.5 tank and does indeed have the level sensor located in the bottom of the tank, as opposed to in the top of the tank as per the earlier Phase 1/1.5 tanks.

As for the bungs, I'm sure that the part number has been stated on here in the past and a search would probably reveal it, but from memory you can get a suitable bung from a ZX diesel airbox.

If you don't want to have blanked off outlets on header tank and you want to make your coolant system self bleed :P get one of these from Pug dealer :D

Remove Gti6 bleed screw, drill out hole,bond/seal in new bleed pipe, then the pipe from this will run to your unused outlet on header tank B)

Pug part number 1336 K8 think was circa £5 from Pug.

Apologies for being a little blind but what/where exactly is the bleed bit you have fitted in that picture ?

T piece with stainless allen bleed screw in it,top of thermo housing ;)

Standard Gti6/VTS just has a bleed screw straight into thermo housing :)

This pic might be better, the hose going to top right header tank outlet is going onto the T piece I fitted:

would imagine that would bleed pretty well with a dropped rad, just open the heater to bleed that and the rest will do it of its own accord :)
