Mi16 Oil Pressure / Grpa Spring

Recommended Posts

My rebuilt Mi is showing a worryingly low amount of oil pressure when tested using something other than the dash gauge, I've done some reading on Group A springs on the site, any use? I know finding the source of the low oil pressure would make more sense, but it's my daily driver at the moment, just don't have time for a tear down and rebuild unfortunately.

Surely a higher pressure spring wont make any difference if the pressure isn't there to start with? (if i understand correctly)

GrpA spring is Mi spring I think, its only a upgrade to put one in 8v oil pump as far as I know

Is bottom pulley bolt tight?????

What was done during re-build to crank/oil pump etc??????

Bottom pulley is super tight (caught me out before :)), everything was rebuilt as it should be, ie. crank checked, new shells, etc, could be losing oil pressure from a dodgy bucket in the head but I don't think that's the cause.

The oil pump spring from the XU10 (eg GTi-6) pumps are an upgrade from the original Mi spring. Not expensive direct from peugeot either. But as mentioned you could just be masking the problem.

How long since the oil was last changed, maybe its a sign it's due.

MI spring is a 5 bar spring, as mentioned the GTI6 spring is the upgrade at 6 bar - £1.50 odd from dealer, or £7.50 on ebay as they are rebranded as 'Group A'.

I sell them on ebay at £7, they're £1.75 from a dealer now, were 99p last year! 75% increase, scandalous.

In my Mi mine runs cold at 2-3k revs at 100psi. Runs at about 70psi when it's up to temp. no idea on tickover. I have a proper mocal mechanical gauge in the car. This is a must the std gauges can be very out!

what oil pressure is it showing?

go careful with them gti-6 springs!

they should take it to 5.5 bar at 90deg at 4k rpm... but when the engine is cold that means well over 7 bar of oil pressure

above idle..

crank seals and oil filters might not like it much!

saying that. I've not had any trouble

Sadly, If there is an issue with worn bearings ETC. then the engine probably wont make the oil pressure regardless of what spring is in it.
