No Cold Start Valve On My 1.6

Recommended Posts

Peetypug

since i bought my 205 it has been quite hard to start

sometimes taking 10 mins of semi starting and cutting out before it runs, then when its warm it has quite a high idle

anyway, today i got the chance to replace the CSV with a known good one only to find there isnt one fitted

is this right?

its a j plate 1.6 with a B6E engine code

i've compared it to the engine i bought off tom fenton and from what i can see thats the same but a B6D engine

do these codes sound right?

on my 1990 1.9 it had the SAD bolted to the CSV which in turn was bolted somehow to the thermostat housing iirc

can anybody tell me where im going wrong?

cheers

later cars had the SAD bolted directly to the thermostat housing with the CTS in the back of the thermostat housing not in the bit bolted on the side, should have one!

I guess the hose from the elbow on the intake is blocked off as well as the one on the bottom of the inlet?

so it is part of the housing?

no, bolted to the housing, same valve as the earlier cars.

the hoses? the one that goes from the 90degree/K&N adapter, to the SAD, then to the inlet.

no, no sign of it at all, but the coolant hoses seem right

they are on it, the sad is bolted to the side of the housing but no sign of the CTS

err, sorry, massive brainfart on my part, I thought you were on about the SAD.

the CTS will be on the rear of the thermostat housing, near where the dipstick goes down the back.

the lower one shown here;

Tom Fenton

You have now lost me completely. Lets start again.

On the earlier cars, the SAD is attached to a seperate alloy water housing, connected with rubber pipes to the thermostat housing, and also has the coolant temp sensor for the ECU there.

On the late cars, the SAD is attached directly to the thermostat housing. The coolant temp sensor for the ECU is at the back with the two other water sensors for the gauges on the dash.
