Mi16 engie shows 0 oil pressure at idle but builds up pressure as soon as it is reved. Running 5000 rpm the gauge shows around 4 bar presure.

Is that normal?

It´s normal to build up pressure but close to 0 pressure at idle...is that normal?

Is it a unhealthy sign?

Sign of worn bearings?

Thought that idle pressure should be around 1 bar and raise to 4-6 bar when running at normal speed.

Presuming that the gauge is working!

Is this the standard gauge, and is the pressure warning light coming on?

Yes - It´s the std. 205 gti gauge. The std warninglight is not coming on.

Probably a fault with gauge sender if STOP light is not coming on at idle

Its time to worry when that comes on

If you know anyone in the garage trade get a proper oil pressure gauge plumbed into engine and get it checked for piece of mind

Already did :-)

Next to noting when ideling but building up when reved. Did not trust the old gauge.

A freind of mine thinks it is time to change bearings....?

Next to nothing and STOP light not coming on????? Is STOP light wired up to low oil pressure switch?????

Have you changed the cambelt/had bottom pulley off recently?????Might be worth checking bottom pulley bolt is tight

What mileage has eng done??????

Don´t know much about the engine. About 200.000 km.

I´ll check wiriring.

Do you suspect that the big bolt that goes into crank is loose?

If your lucky!

Oil pump might not be pumping to full potential

But with that mileage I would guess its engine re-build time

It's worth checking, if it's loose then you won't get drive to the oil pump.

So did you check it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge at the garage?

It's a bit of a weird one.. if the oil pressure was really that low then the engine would make a hell of a noise! If it isn't knocking or anything then it might be more likely that you have a blockage in the oil pressure sensor fitting. It's also really strange that the warning light isn't coming on if the pressure is that low.

If you can get back to the garage, fit your mechanical pressure gauge to where the oil pressure sender screws in, and then to where the oil pressure switch fits. If both places read nothing then you have problems, but if one of them reads normal and the other nothing then you have a blockage.

Good thinking ;)

That would also explain the STOP light not coming on :)
