Right after asking a few questions a getting some excellent feedback i know need to know just a little bit more.

this pic shows the two plugs under the steering im assuming just plug all these in as normal? Correct?

untitled1.jpg

then this is the illustriuos multiplug. Do i just cut the end off and the attach some extra cable to each one so that it will reach the right sensors?

If you do a search for 'brown+multiplug' then you'll see topics in here that show you exactly what to do.

The best method is to replace the crappy brown engine bay (by the gearbox) multiplug with a SuperSeal connector. Again this is covered in the topics you will find.

The plugs under the dash you don't really need to touch, unless you've pulled out the loom to work on the engine bay connector. So yes, just plug them back in as they only go in one way.

Don't think I'm being an arse, but you have created another 'brown multiplug' thread, when it's been covered enough times already, in great detail with all of the answers. Now when someone searches for this subject, your thread will show up making the list even longer.

I'm just trying to encourage more people to research and use the search function, otherwise this forum will clog up with millions of questions and no answers.

Some forum users even have brown multiplug guides in their signatures. Please try the search, do some reading and get back to us if you really cannot find anything that helps you.

Nice work Dr S.

The Multiplug guide is very good, I read it and didn't even need it...well I don't need it yet!

As for the search function it has been mentioned many many many many times in many many many threads that you really should search before posting.

I have been guilty of not searching before posting myself in the past, however there are even threads on how to search properly which to be honest are really quite easy to understand and simple.

Since I have worked out how to search properly I have found less need to ask questions as the answers are usually there.

I think that unless you are doing something new and revolutionary to your 205 then the topic will more than likely have been covered in one form or another at some point in the past.

So to perform your search try this.....

1. Go to Google

2. Type in what you need to know about ie. Multi plug guide

3. Then follow it with this..... site:forum.205gtidrivers.com

3.5 So you end up with "multi plug guide site:forum.205gtidrivers.com" in your search box

4. Click Google search

5. Hey presto 193 threads about the multi plug

6. Filter out the ones that don't interest you using your own judgement...(no google tool for this)

7. Read what you need to know whilst sipping a cup of the finest Earl Grey Tea and some chocolate hob nobs for dipping!

Hope that helps.

;)

Pointless lectures there....

If you've changed the loom at all, make sure that the wires in the brown plugs under the dash match up as it's not unusual to find the Switched Live and Starter Solenoid wires swapped around which has caused a few people to end up with starters that won't dissengage.

As for replacing the brown plug in the engine bay, I generally replace the entire wire from the plug to the engine component as the wires are often in a fairly bad state from the multiplug onwards. In my last car I actually replaced the entire wire from the dash onwards which improved the performance of the sensors no end :D

It's been a while since I've attached my diagram to any threads, so here you go.

They are not pointless!!

Comments like those above are not just aimed at individuals, and clearly others feel the same way.

It is done sometimes such that others see it and do their own appropriate research before even more material appears which will clog up the search results of those making the effort.

I am assuming Grim it would be OK for the forum to contain 15 threads on how to do up wheel nuts? You can reply with the same answers in every one if you wish.

Dan seems to have found the hints useful, so really your little comment has done no-one any good at all.

Directing someone to a lot more useful information and how to get it at IS useful, as each time a topic is repeated, less people who know the answers and can help bother to do so.

Again good work Dr S.

I thought similar but didn't want to say anything for fear of angering people.

Personally I thought my post was quite useful, it even tells you to sit down and have tea and biscuits, no sign of that in Grims post, he'd just be stood there in the cold with his diagram (very useful I might add) without tea or biscuits.

Hey ho, time to put my battery in the boot......

Hey, Thats good! I must admit that I didn't know how do such a complete search like this? How did I miss this? Is it pinned somewhere that I just don't see?Is it a topic that should be on the "front page" I'm sorry 'cos I honestly didn't know and I realise I must be one of the guilty parties who posted Q's after not searching properly.

Hugh, I'm presently building a new loom for the sensors & starter etc which I want to do right from inside the carb but I'm struggling to find the correct 5mm spade terminals for inside the car to keep the original car side of the internal brown plugs under the dash & fit the new wires into these plugs.

How did you do this bit & if you found new 5mm terminals, where from. I really don't want to use spliced or soldered joints on an otherise new loom.

Alfie, the search issue has been covered a few times recently in the Questions, commeents & suggestions section with a few users posting the link to the google search page into their signatures.

Thanks for that Graham, I see it now, but as a Not so computer geek as you lot, personally, I wouldn't have thought of looking there tbh. So whats wrong with "How to do a search" pinned topic. I'm sure you wouldn't be flooded with piontless posts, and I don't mean to be padantic? (sp) thanks anyway, Terry.

Graham, IIRC spiky did manage to source the terminals from Peugeot, and as well as that someone else commented that some terminals from VWP fit the original Peugeot plug housings, if that's what I understood you're after?

Thats interesting, Thanks Mei.

I'll ask at my local Peugeot garage & see what I can get, if any & I'll send Spiky a pm.

I've found that the 6mm pins fit the male end of the standard brown under dash plugs but unfortunately the female ends are to big to fit which is why I'm looking for either some the right size or a suitable plug for the 6mm terminals thats looks the same as oe.

Shame all the plugs I have found are totally different in style & number of pins. :)

Graham.

They're pointless as the search problems have also been covered elsewhere and sorted, and answering the very small number of duplicate threads properly is actually quicker than lecturing people on using the forum correctly. If you think someone needs help with searching, then just post up a quick link to a thread which explains how to do it.

Long lectures like that just makes us all seem like a bunch of stuck up dicks, especially when they're been given by lower ranking members of the forum who shouldn't really be giving pointers on pointless threads in the first place.
