Fog Light Not Working

Recommended Posts

Everything working fine, including power to 'multiplug' and earth is fine too, just won't light up. Tried several known good bulbs. Can there be corrosion on the terminals the bulb makes contact with and if so it there a known way of removing it, maybe steeping in a solution of something?

Vinegar worked fine for me, if you can find something small enough to remove the corrosion once it is softened up.

Also, I don't mean to patronise, but have you checked the fuse?

I'll try vinegar on a cotton bud.

Can't be the fuse as power right up to the plug that goes onto the back of the light casing.

Thanks.

Probably corrosion on the connector as you've guessed and something that I usually have to address on any new 205 that I buy, but don't forget to check the contacts for the bulb inside - the center sprung one I've found can give problems too and can need either the corrosion scraping off or the contact bending outwards a little.

Personally, I've found a squirt of WD40 and inserting and removing the connector a few times normally seems to fix the problem so long as the corrosion isn't excessive

Without wanting to state the obvious, you are trying the foglight with the dipped beam on, it won't work otherwise. *ducks for cover*

Don't worry about stating the obvious, I've done stupider things

However vinegar on a cotton bud seems to have got rid of some corrosion and working great now. In fact I did the same with the horn and that's working now too!

Putting it into context, I've got to MoT the car this year for the first time since about 2003 so these things have sort of mounted up.
