Threads On My Brake Reservoir Have Worn Down

Recommended Posts

Can I put some silicone sealant around the last thread or two to keep the cover in place? Or will the brake fluid attack the silicone? Anything else I can use as a temporary measure until I can source a replacement? Will brake reservoirs from base models fit the gti's master cylinder? I'm more likely to find scrapping base models here than gtis.

You can buy these still from Pug.

Cable ties over the lid and under the re4sevoir will work.

Or a jubilee clip around the cap just to pull it tighter

Brilliant. Hadn't thought of either of those. Cheers. I'm hoping to buy a new one. But it'll take a few weeks to get here, so need something in the meantime. Since it's last drive, the cap had popped completely off and was just resting at an angle. Will replace the fluid one time when the new reservoir arrives.
