in the 89 gti should there be a beep if the lights are left on ? if so where is the noise box as mine doesnt seem to work?

I thought the light beeper was only introduced on much later cars (92+)?

 

My 89' GTI certainly doesn't beep. Nor does my 90 XS

My L Reg STDT certainly had the lights on buzzer but my 87 GTi didnt have it.

My J reg GTi has one. When it decides to work.

it was fitted from '91 onwards I believe

its a 205 so they where fitted when they had a few spare,and if it wasnt made on a friday or monday

Was the 1st phase2 cars that were fitted with the light buzzer, late 1990 onwards.

My 1990 H reg has the buzzer

My 1990 phase 2 does, my 1989 phase 1.5 didn't.

 

Remove the lower dash right of the steering wheel.

Left of the column should be a bracket holding the central locking electronics and the lights on buzzer - blue socket with a white 'box' plugged in.

A former girlfriend of mine from many moons back had a 91 H plate,at the time the car was only a few years old and the bizzer only worked when the passenger side door opened and not the drivers,I'm sure the J plater worked in the same way too

The door open switches on the drivers side were probably knackered - did the interior light not come on either? Certainly the lights on buzzer should work on the drivers door - be pretty useless otherwise!
