Fuse!

Hi, I have done a search but didn't really find anything suitable so:

I realised the radio wasn't working when I bought my 205 (1.0) and i've tried a different one and still didn't work. Interior light was working neither so I thought it must be the fuse and sure enough the 25A fuse had blown (radio, interior light etc). So I tried to put a new one in and its blown straight away. Disconnected the battery and tried again, connected battery blown again. Its happened around 5 times now straight away. I've done a search and disconnected the rear wiper motor but still it blows...

I've check all earths that I can see (in engine bay, rear boot lid etc), took them off and sanded around the area for a better contact. I'm running out of ideas though now, does anyone know where the specific earthing point is for the radio/interior light?

Thanks

EDIT: I think its fuse 7. Car doesn't have a cigarette lighter, central locking or anything like that. All thats working off it is radio and interior light.

Please look in here.

This is sound, friendly advice that is meant to help you even more.

Reference your actual problem, I suspect someone has screwed something in somewhere and gone through a wire, constantly grounding it. This maybe a trim strip or something.

You should have a multi-meter (they're less than a tenner) and you could put it on continuity and go looking for wires in plugs which are grounding which shouldn't be.

DO NOT be tempted to put higher rated fuses in. This would be masking and not solving the problem.

I'm not entirely sure how to change the thread title now as the edit button has disappeared?

And I can't really give any more information than I already have, i'll go check again but is there a specific earth for the radio/interior light under the dash or something as thats the usual place on other french cars. I've got a multi meter on its way (bought one off the internet) so i'll try that when it arrives.

Thanks

No your description is excellent. You can't modify thread titles once you post it anyway, so it was just a piece of advice for the future.

What I was suggesting was something like 'Radio Fuse Keeps Blowing' and then in the subtitle 'Earthing problem' or 'How to fault find' or something like that.

It just means when someone searches with a specific word or problem related to yours, this thread will show up in a shorter list. Currently if they have a similar problem and mention 'fuse', all of the threads with the word 'fuse' in will show up. But it also means people won't skip your thread with it's rather non-descript title and not offer help.

**On Topic**

It simply has to be a grounding issue. Somewhere, one of the wires in the interior light and radio circuit is grounded somewhere it shouldn't be. Chafed wire through a bulkead; screw through the insulation; something like that.

Just put your multimeter on a ground at one end, switch to continuity (beep) and test the pins on some of the relevant plugs. You should find you have one too many earths. Then trace or bypass that wire.

luggy

Disconnect the front wiper motor as well, no need to disconnect it from the motor, this can be done from within the car on the fuse board.

First line of wire connectors,

Third connector from the left with 5 wires, disconnect it then see how you get on.
