Buying Advice Needed

Hello there,

 

I am currently looking into buying my 2nd GTI. This ones had a fair bit of engine work done to it by peugeot-ecosse and a has had a full respray within the last coupe of years and is going for a keen price.

 

I used a text vehicle check service and got the following information back;

 

'There is no DVLA or police record found for reg number **** ***'

 

'**** *** is recorded as stolen. Loss date 20-09-1995. Ownership rests with insurers who can repossess the vehicle'

 

I have also contacted peugeot-ecosse who confirmed the engine work and said that the car looked very clean and straight.

 

I am wondering what I should do now, is there any more I can find out about it's recorded as stolen status?

Cheers for the replies, turns out the seller gave me the wrong reg number, I've checked the correct one and all is ok bar it being insurance cat c. I'm not too fussed about that as it's going very cheap and has had a fortune spent on it over the past 2 years.
