Exhaust Centre Section Removal Advice

Recommended Posts

S33GAV

Hey, I'm trying to remove the centre section of my 3 piece 205 gti exhaust, without breaking it, as I want to remove it and put it back on properly this time, i.e. with some exhaust paste, doh!

Anyway it's a bitch to come off and I'm not having much joy - any advice on how best to get the bugger off without breaking it?

I've tried undoing the clamp and knocking the backbox with some wood and a mallet, to try and pull it out that way, but no joy.

Cheers

Gav

Have you tried opening up the flange with say a chisel or a large flat screw driver? Also a bit of heat may well do wonders!

never found exhaust paste to be particularly effective on a sleeve fit exhaust tbh, just make sure its all the way in and has a decent clamp with greased threads and it should be fine if its not a cheap one B)

Thanks for advice.

Welshpug, I put it on originally without paste and just clamped it up - it was a brand new 3 piece, pugsport group n centre and backbox, but there is some fluid seeping out of the join, which I was assumig wasn't right and was because I didn't use any paste to seal it?

I see, I would think the join isn't fully seated and clamped quite sufficiently, sealant may well help there I guess, the Group N systems werent renowned for their quality or longvity, which is not surprising for a part that gets ripped off the bottom of a gravel car every other event :)

The fluid would be condensation build up B)
