Gti-6 Belt Tensioning...

Recommended Posts

fatony1

I know this has been covered a few times before, but i've been looking on Service Box and have found this diagram.

Im running a '6 lump with the standard '6 alternator, bolted in the standard place. I dont have power steering or aircon. If i buy/fit number 4 in the diagram, would this be sufficent to use as the belt tensioner? Ill then get a belt to suit ^_^

Thanks in advance :lol:

I'll have a look on my engine and let you know B)

Its the 306 Gti6 Rallye aux belt set up in your pic.

Have a look on Gti6 owners forum,the full aux set up comes up for sale on there quite often :)

Im runninng a 306 turbo diesel cambelt tensioner on the alt belt on my 6 engine. It bolts into one of the exsisting bolt holes, very neat, and you can prob find a perfectly good tensioner in local garage for free as they will be replaced with a belt kit. Can take pics on weekend if you like?

Hmm... Interesting, I need to sort mine out ideally. Item number 4 looks promising..

I just ditched the lot for the earlier XU10 non a/c setup, far lighter and takes up a lot less space.

You will need number 5 if you buy number 4 :)

here's what I have on mine

I have that on a ZX bolted to the gti6 engine, with pas I must add.

However I did use the same Alternator and engine bracket on a 205 without the PAS pump and the tensioner in place, what I did was fabricate a tensioner to fit in place of #6.

I used the 8 valve bolts and some 3mm steel strap with a slot cut into it and a few holes, can't have taken more than half an hour to make and fit.

looked like this;
