Ducato Van Clutch

Recommended Posts

steve@cornwall

Hi my brother in law has a 55 plate ducato 1.9 td van (peugeot expert I think is the same) he's finding it difficult to engage gears so I had a look this morning.....

Where on earth is the master cylinder on this? theres a pipe coming from behind the pedal, but can't see where to check fluid levels - anyone have any idea?

without checking Servicebox I'd say it could well be on the same reservoir as the brake fluid, my Fiat Brava was like this, when the slave cylinder started leaking it would start creeping if you held the clutch pedal down and eventually I had no brakes ;)

Cheers for that! since posting I've trawled a few google results that point in the same direction. looks like someone's forking out for a new clutch :D as the fluid level's fine.

Must be his driving style - I'm driving his old hyundai which blew it's clutch slave cyl today, 11 roundabouts to negotiate on the way home with no clutch and a car full of live tropical fish!!!!

I had a look at Servicebox, its the Boxer/Relay BTW, the larger one, they are indeed off the same reservoir, no visible bleed points, which makes sense as the reservoir is at the highest point anyway.

I don't know how common it is for the cylinders to fail though, might be worth asking a van specialist or a dealer to see if they sell a lot of them.

Feel for you with the Hyundai, but why was it full of fish?

I think at 80K the ducato is due a clutch - probably just worn out. The fish are another hobby for when it's too cold and wet to play with the Pugs. I was picking up some new ones from a local breeder. At least the hyundai isn't a difficult job, I'll pick up a replacement slave cyl tomorrow as there's one in a nearby scrappy and I'm not about to throw new parts at a car that is just struggling to use up the remaining MOT- it needs new rear brake shoes and a windscreen (horrendous price and bonded in) so is a run it into the ground smoker now! At least I've still got the 1.1 to run about in and the GTi is so nearly ready for the road again- just need to save the pennies for the road tax, really.

may well be especially on a 1.9, tis a fair sized van for a small engine!

I think they tend to use an ML gearbox, they weigh about 45 kilos
